About
Founder Courtney Block
What happens when a somewhat gifted and talented seamstress signs up to go on a mission trip with her church? She goes and her heart is changed. She gets a chance to meet new people and see them through God’s eyes. She loves the LORD and starts to ask Him what He has in mind for her to do, especially since she is not a wealthy businessperson.
God seems to say, ‘Glad you asked. Let’s walk and talk for a while and maybe sew a little along the way.’ The story starts to take shape. This seamstress, named Courtney Block from Wayzata, MN signs up for a mission trip to Ethipoia. She thinks she is going to teach a few women how to sew a few projects so they can sell items in the market. Little does she know that when she arrives and sees women who feel forgotten with little hope her heart hurts for them. She asks the Lord to break her heart for what breaks His. And He does just that.
Courtney, ‘God Sees Me feels like a quilt that the LORD is stitching together. Each initiative is a block of the quilt with the Holy Spirit as the top stitching, creating a beautiful design along the way. It is very exciting to participate in a project with the LORD as our instructor. We are the craftsmen; He is the Creator. The goal of this organization is to help support women and children who want to be seen for who God made them to be.’
God Sees Me Comes to Life
Courtney goes three times to Ethiopia. Each time she teaches the women new projects to make and sell. Then in 2020, because of COVID, the upcoming trip to Ethiopia had to be cancelled. Courtney prayed and asked God, how she can help when she can't go? She and her husband prayed for several months. And then one night, she had a dream. It was the most vivid dream she’d ever had in her life. It was like two people having a real life conversation!
God was telling her the details of
how to start a nonprofit business
what to do to get it going
how to fund it
Courtney asked, ‘how do I even know this is you, God?’ And He said, ’because I AM!’ She woke up and told her husband Chris about the dream. They prayed and asked for direction and discernment. Every step of the way, they did what God said, and today God Sees Me is a viable 501(c)(3), supporting 150+ women and many children!
Inspired by faith and a calling to serve, Courtney launched God Sees Me to build a supportive community for women and children, igniting hope and transformation.
Our Mission
Our mission is rooted in faith and community, offering a hand up rather than a handout. We believe in the transformative power of hope and practical support for at-risk women and children.
